Royalty begins here!

I just read this blogger ‘Anonymousxwrites‘ writing a blog post on how posting a LINK to the pictures of Edison Chen’s sex pictures may potentially be against the law.

Luckily for me, I didn’t post any pictures nor links to the pictures. I only posted link to the website which you might find said pictures.

I dont have a law degree, but I seriously don’t think posting a LINK to the pictures of celebrity sex scandals are illegal. Infact, many Chinese newspaper and magazines are publishing censored pictures of the scandal! Are they going to get into trouble with the law too?

FIRSTLY

Based on what this blogger say:

So think twice before you join the rest in spreading the links of any sex scandal photos. Because what highlighted in blue may just cover ‘publishing links which lead to obscene photos’.

(ii) on which is recorded or stored for immediate or future retrieval any information that, by the use of any computer or other electronic device, is capable of being reproduced or shown as any picture, photograph, word, statement, sign or representation,
Undesirable Publications Act (Chapter 338)

LINKING to another website which HOSTS the pictures is NOT the same as publishing. Even if the pictures are obscene, so as long as the pictures are not hosted on your own blog or website, you have no RECORDS and the picture is not STORED on your website.

SECONDLY

Various Chinese newspapers and magazines have already posted these pictures. I think they got the source of the pictures from the same place as we do - FROM THE INTERNET. If bloggers have to be penalized for posting pictures or LINKS to such pictures, then shouldn’t these media companies be dealt with even more severely?

THIRDLY

Don’t look down on bloggers that are posting about Edison Chen’s scandals to get traffic. Even in SINGAPORE journalists have to write scandalous headlines and sex stories to sell their publication. You will notice on famous magazines such as Her World, Teenage, and even 8 Days - they ALWAYS have a scandalous sex story title on their front covers. Are you boycotting media, magazines, television, newspaper and blogs altogether now?

  3. only if you live in hong kong that they can fine or arrest you, not if your website resides in another country.

The hong kong police stated that.

  4. Yes, if you host the pictures on your website… but many people just post a Link to other people’s websites for pictures.

Means if someone upload the sex pictures on a website in USA and show to everyone else… no one will get into trouble right?

  6. Don’t worry, no one will be persecuted for links in blog comments that link to web sites which then link to the photos! :D
